WASHINGTON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush has not
decided on whether wholesale changes to the U.S. tax code would
be a focus of administration policy if he won a second term, U.S.
Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Friday.
Asked in an interview with the financial cable channel CNBC whether
tax code changes, such as the institution of a value-added tax,
would be a focus of administration policy if Bush were to win a
second term, Snow said, "I don't know."
"The president hasn't made that decision yet," he said.
"But clearly we have a lot of room for improvement in this
code."
"I think engendering a discussion on that, as the president
did, is certainly a very worthwhile thing," Snow added, referring
to comments Bush made last week in which he said a national sales
tax was worth looking at.
